Version 0.2

So after about 24 hours I've already had a lot of really helpful feedback from people on here and on Reddit as well as friends and family. Thanks to everyone who has taken a look, in particular anyone who gave me feedback on the first prototype.

Having listed all the feedback and made a to-do list I've now changed a lot of the secret rules cards. I decided that the best way to go about the next iteration was to group the feedback into the nature of the issue in order to create a list of criteria for the secret rules, then go through and apply the criteria to all of them and see what made the cut. The criteria were;

  • Will it make the game of Chess unplayable?
  • Is it likely to occur during a standard game?
  • Is it easy to track whether it’s being obeyed?
  • Is it too easy to guess?
  • Is it clear how this works?

Based on this I ended up making changes to quite a lot of the prompts. Most were tweaked and edited but some were scrapped entirely and replaced with new ideas. There are still a few that I was on the fence about that I've left in for the moment as I'd like to see how they fare if and when they come up in an actual playtest.

Hopefully the new 100+ secret rules will make sense, be clear, and not get in the way of the game being a fun experience for both players!

Let me know if you get a chance to read or try V0.2 and how the new cards shake out.
